Sorry we’re late, I was being a little shirt. If kids are getting bullied and no one is taking the action needed, chances are that school needs help that firing people won’t help. If I read this right, it happened in class? When I was a kid, I went to a really bad school (we had students who were in and out of juvenile hall, gangs, crime happening on campus regularly). And kids were bullied right in class. The teachers were so afraid to do anything that they would let it happen. I hope the parents of this girl sue the shit out of the district.

It’s not that it isn’t taken seriously, it’s that there’s so little school admin and teachers can legally do. It’s kind of like how in legal cases, you can’t process a he-said-she-said without any evidence. In many bullying cases there is no direct evidence, so you’re reduced to talking to the kids and parents. There are varying levels of productivity in talking, depending on how cooperative everyone is. If the kids and parents ignore you, there’s really nothing you can do until you actually observe one kid hitting another. Sorry we’re late, I was being a little shirt.

Even then, these things happen so fast that it can be hard to tell who actually started what. Sorry we’re late, I was being a little shirt. Then what punishment can you really hand down? Suspension? Great, now the kid is getting even less education than before AND being removed from the environment so as not to see or hear about or cooperate in fixing the damage they caused. It really is an all around losing situation.
